LET'S GO FOR A HIKE

LET'S GO FOR A HIKE

SLACK-PACKING:

Hiking without your full pack, carrying only your essentials for the day (calories, hydration, toilet, electronics). This allows you to hike more miles at a faster pace.

We offer many slacking options while you stay at The Green Dragon. Slacking can be a great way to get more trail done in a shorter time; make up time in your hiking schedule; is perfect for those who want to spend their days outdoors enjoying the hike and are ready for a soft bed, hot food and clean clothes at night.

WATERFALLS AND WANDERINGS

Whether you are looking for a solo retreat, a couple’s getaway, or a group adventure, we can build you a custom hiking trip to enjoy beautiful northern Georgia. Itineraries can include the A.T., or local hikes and waterfalls. Here is a sample of what a relaxed 3 day trip could look like:

DAY ONE

Start your day with breakfast at the Green Dragon, then we are off to conquer some Appalachian Trail! We will visit Mountain Crossings outfitters in the morning to shop, then we will hit the ridge for 5 miles of hiking. If it is fall and the leaves have started to thin, you will enjoy panoramic views on both sides of the trail. When we get to the bald on top of Cowrock Mountain, you will understand why people love to hike and get those views! We will enjoy our lunch and “top of the mountain” moment, then it’s a mile downhill to our chauffeur, who will drive you back to the Green Dragon for an afternoon of relaxation and dinner together in Hiawassee

Wake up to a Green Dragon breakfast, then we will drive to Anna Ruby Falls. A short, paved 0.4-mile paved foot trail takes you along the banks of Smith Creek to the two observation decks near the base of the twin waterfalls. Then we’re off! We will hike 4.3 miles in descent on the Smith Creek Trail, ending at Unicoi State Park. There are several creek crossings on this rustic trail. We will stop along the way to enjoy a snack and recharge. When we arrive at Unicoi State Park, you will enjoy lunch at the Lodge. After lunch, it’s back to the Green Dragon for showers, naps, sitting on the porch and watching the birds, reading a book, catching up on binge tv or movies, whatever you want! Dinner will be in Hiawassee, and firefly watching will be together at the Green Dragon.

DAY TWO

DAY THREE

More waterfalls today! After breakfast we will drive to Helton Falls. Helton Falls is a short, .3 mile out and back trail. There is a swimming hole at the falls, so if you like a polar plunge, you can take a dip! Our next stop is Duke’s Creek Falls. Duke’s Creek is an easy, half mile down hill trail to multiple viewing platforms. This beautiful waterfall is 300 feet tall and stretches past multiple drops at the bottom. We will enjoy a packed lunch in the picnic areas. From the parking lot you have views of Mt. Yonah in the distance. After our lunch, it’s off to Helen for some shopping and dinner. Helen is known for its Bavarian architecture and vibe - It’s just good, German, dorky fun.

This could be your point of view.
